Term | Definition |
---|---|
CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) | A Cisco certification level indicating advanced knowledge in networking. |
SWITCH Exam (300-115) | A Cisco certification exam focused on switching technologies and practices. |
VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) | A logical subdivision of a network, separating devices without regard to physical location. |
STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) | A network protocol that ensures a loop-free topology for Ethernet networks. |
EtherChannel | A technology that allows the grouping of several physical Ethernet links to create a logical Ethernet link for increased bandwidth and redundancy. |
VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) | A Cisco protocol that simplifies the management of VLANs across a network. |
HSRP (Hot Standby Router Protocol) | A Cisco redundancy protocol for establishing a fault-tolerant default gateway. |
Port Security | A feature on Cisco switches to control access and secure network ports. |
Layer 3 Switch | A switch that can perform routing functions in addition to switching. |
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) | A protocol used for network management and monitoring. |
QoS (Quality of Service) | Techniques to manage network resources by setting priorities for specific types of data. |
Multilayer Switch | A network switch that operates at both the data link layer and network layer. |
RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) | An evolution of STP that provides faster convergence. |
PVST+ (Per-VLAN Spanning Tree Plus) | A Cisco enhancement of STP that allows a separate instance of STP per VLAN. |
EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) | An advanced distance-vector routing protocol used on a computer network for automating routing decisions and configuration. |
OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) | A routing protocol for Internet Protocol (IP) networks that uses a link state routing algorithm. |
BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) | The protocol used to make core routing decisions on the Internet. |
Network Convergence | The process where a single network handles multiple types of traffic such as voice, data, and video. |
ACL (Access Control List) | A list of permissions attached to an object specifying access rights to users. |
Redundancy | The duplication of critical components or functions of a system to increase reliability. |
These terms are essential for anyone engaged in the Cisco Routing and Switching 300-115 course, as they form the backbone of the knowledge required for the CCNP certification and practical network management.
This course is designed to prepare you for the Cisco 300-115 SWITCH exam, which is one of the exams required for obtaining the Cisco CCNP Routing and Switching or CCDP certification. The course focuses on deploying IP switched networks and developing strategies for implementing and verifying Cisco enterprise-switched solutions.
By taking this course, students will learn troubleshooting, maintaining Cisco IP Networks, building redundancy, Routing & Switching, and advanced switch features. The course will provide exposure to Cisco Advanced Routing and knowledge applicable in real-world environments.
The 300-115 SWITCH exam is a test of your ability to plan, implement, verify, and troubleshoot complex LAN switching solutions in an enterprise environment. It is part of the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching certification track, along with the ROUTE and TSHOOT exams.
The SWITCH 300-115 exam consists of 45-65 questions. The types of questions include traditional multiple choice (requiring multiple answers), drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank questions, and several interactive scenario-based simulations. The exam has a time limit of 120 minutes.
To earn the CCNP R&S credential, which includes the 300-115 SWITCH exam, candidates must already have a CCNA R&S or any CCIE certification. Apart from the 300-115 test, they must sit for two other assessments, which are 300-101 and 300-135. For the CCDP badge, the prerequisites include passing 300-101, 300-120, and 300-115 Cisco tests. In addition, a candidate should be previously certified with CCDA and CCNA R&S, or CCDA and CCNP R&S, or any valid Cisco CCIE/CCDE certification.
You can register for the SWITCH 300-115 exam through the Pearson VUE website.

I’ve enjoyed the training so far. Wish it was more focused on Linux like other training, but still good.
The educators at ituonline.com are highly skilled but could improve their methods of instruction. In the CCNA 200-301 course, there’s a heavy emphasis on oral lectures, and it would be beneficial to include more in-depth visual aids. Annotating labs and graphics could also make the educational journey more effective. On the other hand, the N10-008 course instructor consistently offers top-notch material.
This course is super detailed but not boring, and they give you cool projects to actually practice what you’re learning.
